 Lift Truck Chain Rochester - Rochester (population 210,565) is a city within the state of New York. It serves as the county seat for Monroe County. It is the 3rd most densely inhabited city within New York State after New York City and Buffalo. The city of Rochester is located just south of Lake Ontario.
Rochester's Larger Metropolitan Area consists of all of Monroe County and parts of Genesee County, Livingston County, Orleans County, Wayne County and Ontario County. According to the 2010 Census, the metro area has a population of 1,054,322 people.
Rochester has a vibrant and rich arts and culture sector as the city places a priority on the arts. Offering many opportunities for Greater Rochester inhabitants within the city's Arts & Cultural Council. Cultural institutions comprise the Memorial Art gallery, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rochester Museum & Science Center, the Strong Museum, the Strasenburg Planetarium, the Geva Theatre Center and the AV Room. Once recognized as The World's Image Centre, because of its role in the history of photography, the city is home to the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film. Rochester's annual calendar consists of the Corn Hill Festival, the Park Avenue Merchants Festival and the Rochester Jazz Festival. Film festivals are held on an annual basis, most particularly the High Falls Film Festival.
Rochester's colourful vernacular has extended beyond the city's border. Rochester residents popularized the term "pop" for soda drinks. Hot dogs are called "red hots".
Known as the Flour City, Rochester has been more recently named "the Flower City". The city draws more than 100,000 tourists from all around the globe who come to the yearly Lilac Festival. Outdoor aficionados can hike around remarkable waterfalls and canyons at Letchworth State Park, south of Rochester. Lots of residents have cottages within the nearby Finger Lakes Region.
Eastman Kodak is among a few Fortune 1000 companies located in the city of Rochester. Kodak was at one time the areas biggest employer. Bausch and Lomb is another one of the various national and regional companies located in the city. The city of Rochester was the birthplace of Xerox during the year 1906, then called The Haloid Company. Xerox still exists in Rochester. Western Union was established within the Rochester area, but has since moved.
Because of the city's big concentration of optical science research and businesses, Rochester is recognized as the imaging capital of the globe. The Institute of Optics is located on the campus of the University of Rochester. Rochester Institute of Technology in the nearby Henrietta also has an imaging program. At present, the University of Rochester is the biggest employer within the Rochester area.
