These figures place 13.1% of the population below the poverty line, that is a bit above the national rate of 13%.
Ohio's GDP is mostly because of the financial and manufacturing sectors each making up 18.3% of Ohio's Gross Domestic Product. In terms of GDP, the manufacturing sector in Ohio ranks as the third biggest amongst all fifty states. 59 of the States' top 1000 publically traded businesses have their head offices within the state of Ohio, according to 2008 statistics. Amongst these companies include: Abercrombie & Fitch, AK Steel, Wendy's, Goodyear Tire & Rubber and Proctor & Gamble and Timken. The state of Ohio even has its very own lottery, just like 41 other states do. In the course of its 34 year history, the Ohio Lottery has contributed over fifteen and a half billion dollars to public education.
